Introducing Diary: unleashing unfinished melodies and memories

Dedicated to the art of preserving unfinished and unreleased works from the studio, Diary embarks on a sonic journey where fragments of memories come alive, the machines breathe, dream, love, and drag listeners along the captivating path of artistic creation.

Unleashing the unfinished: a gateway to the creative process
Diary is more than just a sub label; it is a project that peels back the layers of the creative process, offering a unique perspective into the minds of musicians and their artistic endeavors. This subdivision aims to celebrate the raw beauty of unfinished works, showcasing the moments where inspiration strikes, melodies are born, and emotions run wild.

Breathing life into unreleased creations
In the world of Diary, forgotten melodies find their voice, and dormant compositions see the light of day. This remarkable endeavor cherishes the magic that happens in the studio, where musicians embark on a journey of musical exploration and experimentation. From the earliest recordings to the latest studio sessions, every fragment is woven together into a rich tapestry of musical ingenuity.

Embracing memories and emotions
Diary delves into the very essence of human expression, capturing emotions that often lay hidden within unfinished works. Listeners will find themselves transported through a sonic landscape that resonates with the universal human experience - memories of love, joy, heartache, and everything in between. These unreleased gems embody the authenticity and vulnerability of artistic expression in its purest form.

Release #1 by Andrew Tasselmyer.

Andrew Tasselmyer is a musician from Baltimore, MD currently living in Philadelphia, PA. Using a mix of synthesizers, samplers, and field recordings, he creates ambient music that blends ethereal soundscapes with the tactile sounds of specific times and places. In addition to an extensive catalog of releases on labels such as Laaps, Eilean, Seil, Home Normal, Constellation Tatsu and more, he is a member of Hotel Neon and Gray Acres.

"The general premise behind this album was to capture a true sense of what inspired me each time I sat down to record.

Side A is generally grittier, colder, and more synthetic - it’s a little more overtly “digital” sounding (at least to my ear). On side B, I included the use of cassette tape simulations and acoustic instrument samples that add a bit more warmth than the first half. I hope that a sense of experimentation comes across on both sides as you listen.

I used an extremely limited set of tools (my iPad and Octatrack MK2 sampler) and recorded live performances of each track without any arrangement after the fact. Nothing was done to alter these tracks from the first hours after they were recorded aside from light mastering prior to the cassette printing, just to bring the volume of each track to a consistent level for listener convenience."
